Axioms are the axles of life.

The word axiom is a word I seldom use in normal conversation.  I don’t even use it in atypical communication.  I seem to remember a series of sermons I developed over twenty years ago centered in Biblical axioms.  I learned the word in a high school math class.  It sounds like the word axle. I know what an axle is.  I have a good understanding of what an axle does.  An axle is that part of a vehicle that holds the wheels under the load-carrying portion of the car or truck.  Not only does an axle control the wheels, but it also supports them in the most advantageous position to allow the load to be in the most efficient and secure placement.  Where there is no axle to hold the wheels, there is increased resistance in proper loading and transporting.

When I need to move an object uncomfortably heavy for the distance, I look for some wheeled transporter.  Usually, if I am outside, it’s my wheelbarrow.  Sure it has only one wheel, but that wheel has an axle.  In my woodworking shop, I have two small wheeled multiuse tables I use to move heavy things around.  There, again, each of the four wheels has an axle.

When I have a heavy load of life to carry, it is wise for me to take the time to look at my axials, axioms.  I gain perspective, hope, and understanding for carrying a load of life in that season. Axioms do not make the load lighter, but it does reduce the friction making life more tolerable, even doable.

Below are a few axles, or axioms, on which my life seems to works best.

I cannot tap into the full possibilities of power if I am unaware of all the options of power that exist.

I cannot teach what I do not know; I do not know what I cannot teach.

I cannot give witness to what I have not experienced.

I cannot explain what I have not considered intently and made informed decisions.

I am limited by what I do not know, and by what I do not think (ponder).

Shallow is the person who does not probe ever deeper into what they think they know.

There is only one way to diminish the grace of God, my desire for something other than His grace.

If I always think thoughts I have always thought, I will always be the person I have always been.

Where there no faith needed for life, there is no adventure in life.

Where there has been no death, there can be no resurrection.

Where faith in God begins, an awe of God increases.

Joy does come in the morning like manna.   My job is to get out of my tent and gather joy, no matter the weather.
