The Nature of Natural Selection

The fruit of the tree of natural selection

And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:16-17, CSB

You are a result of Supernatural Selection!

For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well. Psalm 139:13-14, CSB

Natural selection may have been the cause of your mother’s egg and your father’s sperm coming into close enough proximity to bump into each other. But the life, your life, that resulted from the life-potential that was in that sperm and egg, and even more, the life that resulted in their union, became the Creation of you, is Supernatural! That said more succinctly, the God who created all that is, also created you. You have a Divine origin!

God selected to create you! He did not select the circumstances of that creation. Your mother’s womb is a sort of “Garden of Eden.” Everything you need to grow and prosper in your neonate existence was provided as needed and when needed. In that fleshly garden, you were loved and protected. It did not matter how you came to be in that “garden;” just the fact that you appeared is filled with mysterious wonder and glory. God prepared a womb for you. And he will also create room for you to reflect and delight in His glorious majesty.

The condition of the bodies that provided the sperm and egg, and even more the womb, may have been more akin to the morality of an animal than a human, but the womb itself is a place of the awe-inspiring work of the Divine.

The condition under which your embryo began may not have been ideal, but from the first cell division of your life, you were prepared by an all-powerful and knowing Creator. The fact of each person’s beginning is not nearly as important as the reason for that beginning. Every human birth is a reminder that the created is in no way a Creator. We are each a tool of The Creator to extend His vision of Himself, His image.

The nature of natural selection is bleak and dismal. When you left the comfort and security of your mother’s womb, you entered into a harsh and chaotic environment. That environment is the result of our distant foreparents’ choice to consider themselves a just little less omnipotent than their Creator. They were subsequently cast out of the “Garden of Eden.” What they created was dying and full of death from before its first sunrise.

Only what God has charge over has deathless life. All other life, that which is created by fallen humanity, has death that appears for a time as having attributes of life.

No human being is a product of natural selection, nor is it a matter of the survival of the fittest. We are each a vision of the Creator. At least we each have the potential, the call, to bring that Divine vision to life.

God is intent on offering to every human the opportunity to take their less-than-ideal injection into the flow of human history as a Divine inauguration, thus becoming an extension and an expression of His lively love, which is His Glory.

Where you came from is not nearly as important as the fact that you did indeed come! You are here! Your presence, regardless of your situation, is important to God.  If you choose to live from the Divine Origin of your beginning, you will often be troubled by the circumstances of your existence, but you should never be confused about the Divineness of your existence. God desires to use you to complete His awesome purpose. He has also given us the dignity to choose whether that will happen or not.

We are free to choose to live by the false premise that life is a product of “natural selection” or the fact of “Divine Selection.” I choose the latter!
